"The slow unfolding of a line"
The slow unfolding of a line approaches mark making as an embodied practice of attention, resisting the speed, distraction and saturation of contemporary visual culture. The work engages with the “visual noise” of city environments with its influx of signs, advertisements and informational graphics, which serve as readymades in my practice. Some elements, such as arrows, remain recognisable but are deliberately arranged to disrupt their logic and function through repetition. Others, like fragments of advertising, are softened, reduced or emptied until they hover just at the edge of visibility. Across this spectrum, the work seeks to retreat from visual excess, unfix meaning and interrupt clarity.  Through repetitive marks, faint lines and delicate gestures to resist immediacy and for the maker and viewer to dwell within the work. This is also shaped by Eastern philosophies that consider slowness and repetition as quiet, intentional gestures.
